Year 12

As a Year 12 you are entitled to the following careers provision at The Priory Academy LSST:

Head of Year

Head of Year for your year group. Will Liaise with subject teachers and form tutor and encourage and support your progression through school 

Pastoral Support

Access to a pastoral learning mentor, experienced in advising students in your particular year group. A none teaching member of staff who you can go to with any concerns you may have 

Awareness Programme

Topics studied in Awareness: 

  • Labour Market Information 

  • Higher and Degree Apprenticeships 

  • Employment 

  • University 

  • Gap Years 

  • Money Management 

Learning Mentor

A senior student or a member of staff who can advise and coach in a particular subject.

Peer Listener

A senior student to whom students can go to with any concerns that they may have.

Access to a Pathways meeting

The opportunity to speak to the Academy Careers Team or a Trust careers advisor about their career choices and receive advice and guidance on next steps after school.

Access to an online Careers Platform UNIFROG an online careers platform to learn more about a range of different careers, what the role entails, entry requirements and progression routes.

Careers Events

The opportunity to attend several careers events. Employers come into school and will provide advice and guidance on working within their sector. There could also be opportunities to visit employers on their premises.

Work Experience

Students will have the opportunity to spend time out of school gaining experience in the workplace. Students will be encouraged to source their own placement but will receive support if this is not possible. All placements will be health and safety checked and school will liaise with employers for the duration of the placement.

STEM Activities

Access to a range of STEM activities delivered both in and out of school.

6th form information evening

Guidance on completing the university application, information about student finance and advice on alternative pathways if a student does not want to apply to university.

Personal statement guidance

Advice and guidance on how to complete a personal statement to make it the best it can be for the chosen degree subject.

UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) application checking

One to one meeting with Careers Manager to go through the student’s university application prior to submission.

University workshops

Online or actual attendance to a variety of workshops and summer schools offered by universities.

University trip

Visit local universities. An opportunity to speak to existing students and tour the campus.

Oxbridge awareness day

Academics and students from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge come into school, explain the application process, and give an insight in to Oxbridge life.

UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) Support

Support and lessons for those students needing to complete UCAT examinations in preparation for university.
