Army Cadets

The Army Section of the CCF wear the cap badge of the Intelligence Corps and follow the infantry Army Proficiency Syllabus.  This is completed on average over two academic years.  From Easter of Y8, cadets complete the following activities to pass their APC Basic:

  • Drill and Turnout
  • Military knowledge
  • Skill at Arms (SAA) (Scorpion Air Rifle and L98A2 Cadet Rifle)
  • Shooting (Air Rifle, .22 Indoor Range and Full Bore outdoors)
  • Fieldcraft including a 48hr Field Exercise.
  • Navigation
  • First Aid – Basic CPR
  • Expedition Training including a 48hr walking and camping expedition (equivalent to a Bronze DofE practice expedition)
  • Teambuilding & Leadership
  • Fitness Training
  • Radio & Cyber
  • BTEC Level 1 Teamwork and Personal Skills for uniformed youth organisations

At the end of year one, cadets are expected to attend a seven day CCF camp on an Army Training base. In their second year, cadets progress onto the advanced syllabus which involves the following activities:

  • Advanced Drill
  • Advanced Military Knowledge
  • Advanced Weapons training – The cadet target rifle
  • Advanced Navigation
  • Advanced Fieldcraft including battle orders & ambushes – including 48hr exercise
  • Adventurous Training (Week 1)
  • Teambuilding & Leadership
  • NCO Skill development & training
  • First Aid - St John's Youth First Aider
  • Fitness Training
  • Cyber & Radio
  • ILM Level 2 Young Leader

At the end of the year, cadets will again have the opportunity to attend the annual summer camp on an Army Training base. In their third year, cadets progress to senior training where they will develop their skills in the following areas:

  • Methods of Instruction (CFIT)
  • Leadership – (Cadet Leadership Course)
  • Advanced Leadership - (Senior Cadet Instructor Course)
  • NCO Development
  • Basic Signals Course
  • Fitness & Adventurous Training
  • Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification
  • BTEC Level 2 in Teamwork & Personal Development

Cadets will learn how to teach by completing their Cadet Forces Instructional Techniques (CFIT) course. This allows cadets to take on greater responsibility in the section and contingent.  As senior cadets, they will also now be expected to mentor the younger cadets and set an example with uniform and expectations. They will also take on roles of responsibility on the Annual Summer Camp.

Senior cadets in the 6th form, having completed all their training will be given the opportunity to begin instructing / team teaching with the adult staff, continually building their confidence and taking on more senior roles within the leadership and management of their CCF.

Cadets can apply to complete a number of external military and adventure training courses to improve their skills and qualifications.  These can also count as the Gold DofE Residential.

6th Form Accelerated Programme

Cadets joining at the beginning of Year 12 will be given the opportunity over the 2 years of their sixth form education to complete an accelerated programme where it is hoped, due to age and maturity, they will be able to achieve all 3 levels of syllabus learning and qualifications.
